As Vitamin String Quartet continues to expand their impressive catalog of orchestral tributes, the pop-culture-inspired instrumentalists just released their latest full-length album, Vitamin String Quartet Performs Prince, available today, April 14th via Vitamin Records. The latest album features string stylings of the rock legend’s most popular songs including “Purple Rain”, “When Doves Cry”, “Little Red Corvette” and more.
On Vitamin String Quartet Performs Prince, James Curtiss, Director of A&R/Creative Director at CMH Label Group shares “This album has been a long time coming. It’s crazy to think that in the 20+ years VSQ’s music has held the public’s ear, this is the first album to contain any Prince music from the project. And while Prince’s songs are so well known and beloved they’re practically encoded in the DNA of every music fan worldwide, the album presented VSQ with some of its most varied and challenging material. From the breathy, bubbly funk of first single ‘Kiss’, to the regal, measured romanticism of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, all the way to the soaring melancholy of ‘Purple Rain’. Prince’s music gave VSQ so much to showcase as players, producers, arrangers, and music lovers. It’s something I think we’ve all been waiting for.”
The launch of Netflix original show Bridgerton brought Vitamin String Quartet to the spotlight. Their versions of “thank u, next,” “bad guy,” and “In My Blood” were highlights of the first season, while the second season saw VSQ’s music front and center again. With a cult-like following decades prior and as a fan-favorite for traditional weddings with a fun, modern twist, the quartet has since reached mainstream success with over 1.5 Billion streams worldwide.
