Pharrell made him self into a household name from day one, getting his start working as one half of the production duo The Neptunes. The pair began writing and producing for some of the biggest R&B artists of the 1990s. In the early 2000s, the duo began to branch out, working with Britney Spears on her 2001 hit “I’m A Slave 4 U,” Nelly’s single, “Hot in Herre” and Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” His first number one single in the US, Snoop Dogg’s “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” was named rap song of the decade by Billboard in 2009. 2013 was a major year for Pharrell as he dropped the summer hits “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk, “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke, and “Happy” off the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. That same year, Pharrell was nominated for seven Grammy nominations including Producer of the Year, and the video for “Happy”—a 24-hour music video featuring stars like Magic Johnson, Steve Carrell, and Jimmy Fallon—was nominated for Video of the Year at the 2014 MTV VMAs. Not only is the 44 year old a production mastermind but he is an entertainment mogul, starring as a judge on The Voice, launching his own label I am OTHER, and being named artist-in-residence at the renowned Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.
