More info:
Rapper Iggy Azalea was born Amethyst Amelia Kelly in Sydney, Australia, in June 1990 and grew up in the Australian countryside. Moving to the U.S. just before her 16th birthday, Azalea ended up in Los Angeles and cut her first mixtape, Ignorant Art, in 2011. When her rap career wouldn’t take off, Azalea turned to modeling, but the success she found there would be interrupted by her dream: magazine covers and record deals. With her 2014 release, The New Classic, Azalea took the music world by storm, and the single “Fancy” became the song of the summer.
Iggy Azaela’s debut studio album, The New Classic, peaked among the top five of several charts worldwide and received generally mixed reviews. The album generated her debut single “Work”, and the successful songs “Fancy” and “Black Widow.”Fancy” topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven consecutive weeks, making Azalea the fourth female rapper in the history of the chart to reach number one. Additionally, Azalea was featured on Ariana Grande’s single “Problem”, which peaked at number two while “Fancy” was number one; Azalea joined The Beatles as the only acts to rank at numbers one and two simultaneously with their first two Hot 100 entries. Azalea also went on to pass Lil’ Kim as the female rapper with the longest-leading number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Azalea’s second studio album Digital Distortion is due 2016. Its lead single, “Team,” was released on 18 March 2016.
