Don’t let the title fool you– you won’t be getting sick of this retro funk track any time soon. Led by George Clinton, the band members of Parliament, rightly dubbed P-Funk, seamlessly mix futuristic visuals with a heavy vintage bass groove, curating the signature sound that can’t be mistaken for any other group.
Featured on the track is rapper Scarface as “Dr. Feel Good,” who has the secret antidote in a hospital full of chaos. The video contrasts a trippy performance by the ensemble with a comical and entertaining twist on the classic doctor-patient rapport: Scarface as the doctor and Clinton as the patient in need.
The single breaks headlines as the funk legends’ first release in 38 years, but even after almost four decades, Clinton and P-Funk haven’t lost their magic touch.
More info:
George Clinton is one of the foremost innovators of funk music, and was the mastermind behind the bands Parliament and Funkadelic. Clinton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 with 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. Clinton has become recognized as the godfather of modern urban music. Beats, loops, and samples of P-Funk have appeared on albums by OutKast, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, De La Soul, Fishbone, and many others. As Clinton has said, “funk is the DNA of hip-hop and rap.” In 1996, Clinton released the solo album The Awesome Power of a Fully Operational Mothership, which reunited him with Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins.
