Ice T is an undisputed living legend who first embodied the career path of outcast bad boy to mainstream celeb, which was later followed by Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. Now he continues to put out new music sheerly for the love of the game. Body Count is the hardcore/metal band he started back in 1990 with high school friends Beatmaster V, D-Roc, Mooseman, and Ernie C. They’re best known for their self-titled 1992 debut album, which sparked a huge controversy with the song “Cop Killer,” prompting angry outrage from various police groups and the first President Bush. Coming out of nowhere, Manslaughter is Body Count’s fifth album and the first since 2006’s Murder 4 Hire, and it proves they haven’t lost a step. The lineup has changed, but the message remains the same: major angst with a bit of humor thrown in. Ice and his compadres unleash a torrent of ferocious, take-no-prisoners sonic mayhem. Highlights include “Enter the Darkside,” “Talk Sh*t, Get Shot,” and strong reinterpretations of Jay Z’s “99 Problems” and the Suicidal Tendencies classic “Institutionalized.”- iTunes Review
