MAJOR LAZER DEBUTS “BLOW THAT SMOKE” FEATURING TOVE LO
Major Lazer debuts a new song “Blow That Smoke” featuring Swedish singer Tove Lo today—listen/watch here.
“This song has been long in the making and I’m so happy about this collab,” says Tove Lo of the track. “It started with me and Diplo just sending ideas back and forth until I sent this vocal I was unsure what to do with, and they made magic with it! To me the song is about the sweet escape from your troubles or just mundane life by being a bit reckless and romantic.”
The new song follows a string of releases from Major Lazer collaborating with African artists including Burna Boy, Babes Wodumo, Mr. Eazi, Raye and Kizz Daniel, plus Kranium. Each song debuted with a visual from South African director Adriaan Louw. Shot in Lagos, Durban, Ghana and across Africa, the videos pay homage to the cultural richness and youth culture of modern day Africa, with Dame, the ancient West African style of boxing on display in “All My Life,” surfing the West African coast in “Loyal,” Accra’s biker crews in “Tied Up,” and dancing in Durban in “Orkant/Balance Pon It.”
Each track is featured in Major Lazer’s new Afrobeats Mixtape, which was released last month and blends music from across the continent and lends their global platform to trendsetting African artists and their longtime inspirations and collaborators—listen here.
Furthermore, the band recently wrapped a tour of Africa with stops in South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Uganda. While in Africa, Major Lazer visited the VETPAW (Veterans Empowered to Protect African Wildlife) headquarters to participate in anti-poaching missions alongside veterans and learn more about ways to combat poaching in South Africa and beyond.
